Cherry Washing Process

Cherries are very delicate, with thin and sensitive skin. That’s why their washing process is done with special care:

1. Initial Rinse

• Right after harvesting, cherries are rinsed with clean, fresh water to remove soil, dust, and fungal spores.

• This also helps lower the field heat of the fruit.

2. Sanitized Washing

• In export pack houses, cherries are often washed with chlorinated water or approved food-grade sanitizers.

• This step reduces bacteria and prevents fungal infections.

3. Gentle Handling

• Because cherries bruise very easily, only gentle sprays or soft brushes are used.

• High-pressure washing is avoided to protect the skin.

4. Drying

• After washing, cherries are dried using air-drying systems or soft fans.

• Removing excess moisture helps prevent quick spoilage.
